Liner overhaul is the maintenance and repair process of liners used in ships and other large marine vessels. Liners are the components that cover the inner surfaces of engine cylinders to prevent wear. During a liner overhaul, the following steps are typically followed:
Removal of Cooling Jackets: The cooling jackets on the liners are removed. This step allows access to the liners.
Cleaning of Cooling Channels: The internal cooling channels of the liners are thoroughly cleaned. This ensures the removal of any blockages and enables proper cooling.
Dye Penetrant Crack Testing: The surfaces of the liners are tested using the dye penetrant method. This test helps identify any potential cracks or surface defects.
Replacement of O-rings: The O-rings at the assembly points of the liners are replaced and installed. Having intact and functional O-rings is important to prevent leaks.
Liner overhaul is a specialized process that requires proper techniques and sufficient expertise. Therefore, it is recommended to be performed by certified and experienced technicians and engineers.
